On Wednesday, September 20, the Sampson Community College (SCC) Foundation officially welcomed four new directors to the Foundation Board during their New Director Orientation: Nick Autry, Nichole Maroschak, Adrian Matthews, and Jimmy Moore.
Beginning in August 2023, the new directors were elected to serve a three-year term and are eligible for re-election up to two additional terms.
Autry is a longtime resident of Sampson County and has daily interactions with a broad cross-section of the community in his role as General Sales Manager at Performance Ford in Clinton. Through his work, he witnesses many of the workforce skills needed to fill jobs in the local economy.
Market Executive at First Citizens Bank, Maroschak also has deep roots in western Sampson County. She plans to bring additional finance and banking expertise to the Board, while continuing to expand their outreach in the community.
Matthews is the current Assistant Police Chief for the City of Clinton. His directorship will help lend another public service perspective to the Foundation Board and connect with SCC’s Basic Law Enforcement Training program.
The last of the new directors, Moore currently serves as Mayor of Harrells and is a life-long resident of the county. The Board believes that he will greatly assist in bringing the southern voice of Sampson County to the Foundation.
Foundation Directors are encouraged to serve as ambassadors and advocates for the College. Responsibilities include: supporting the Foundation’s mission and purpose, providing proper financial oversight and assist in developing the annual budget, ensuring effective organizational planning, recruiting and training new board members, assessing board performance, strengthening the Foundation’s programs and services, enhancing the organizations public standing, garnering support from the community, etc.
Guiding them through their first three-year term, long-time directors Anne Faircloth, Grover Ezzell, Alice Butler, and Steve Stefanovich will assist in mentoring the new Board Members through monthly calls, quarterly meetings, connecting and advising on ways to engage and advocate for the college.
Lisa Turlington, Dean of Advancement and Executive Director of the Foundation, anticipated about their directorships,
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Nick, Nichole, Adrian, and Jimmy. They bring unique perspectives and skills to the Foundation Board. The orientation gave us a chance to outline their roles and responsibilities and to share some of the ways the Foundation supports the College with student scholarships, capital and program grants, staff and faculty support, public advocacy, and community connection.”
